In 1994, after numerous unsuccessful efforts to bring the online industry together under a single banner, a dedicated group of volunteers committed their efforts and resources to form the Association of Online Professionals, which evolved into the US Internet Industry Association. Support was provided by four visionary companies -- Hayes Corporation, Rockwell International, US Robotics and Clark Development Company, who helped to constitute the first Board of Directors and set the direction for the organization:
