Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and 31 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives. The bill is a companion to the "Internet Tax Freedom Act of 2007," to be introduced in the Senate by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). "USIIA has supported the effort to ban discriminatory taxes on the Internet, and taxes on Internet access, since the issue first came before the Congress in 1998," said USIIA President and CEO Dave McClure. "Congress has given overwhelming support for this measure, and has extended it twice. It is time to make this important law permanent and put an end to the constant threat of discrimination in tax policy. We commend Rep. Eshoo and her co-sponsors for for their leadership in bringing this measure to the House of Representatives, and pledge our support toward speedy passage of both the House and Senate versions."
